December 2001 I started with the preproduction of the music for the film 'Swingers' by Stephan Brenninkmeyer. I started with some sketches, which you still can hear in the trailer. Stephan always creates very convincing temp-tracks, music that is intented to intensify feelings, but has to be replaced by specially composed music.

For the 10 minute scene, when the main characters become close, Stephan cut music from the album 'Passion' by Peter Gabriel, very strong tracks that create a good build-up to the climax. This would take some beating, so I really had my work cut out. This film included the longest music cue I ever worked on. (Normally a film music cue doesn't last longer than 2 to 3 minutes).

Luckily I could rely on some very talented musicians whom I work regularly, singer George Blanken, singer Lesley Hendriks and African percussionist Ousmane Seye. Together with guitarplayer Rick de Bruijn, saxophonist Wout Wierda and bassist Alex Geuring I finished the base. Next came the string quartet Eline Holl (violin 1), Ruth Hoornveld (violin 2), Marcel van der Heijden (viola) and Guido van den Ende (cello) to fill in the emotional lines.

I took care of all the trumpet tracks, piano tracks, additional percussion and electronics myself.

The film is full of music, especially because there's a lot of background music. CD's are played on stereosets to add to the atmosphere. I also composedthis music and again it was recorded with the musicians.

The transitions from source to drama music are seamless.

In total I composed more than one and a half hour of music for the film. this is the total lenght of the film, but as always some cues were cut, or music only found its way into the trailer.

The song during the credits is a track I wrote together with singer George Blanken. This is also true of 'Diana's Lovesong', which gives atmosphere to a nice sequence where the main characters seduce each other in several different ways. We elaborated on the track for the CD. We worked on a rendition of 'Getting Over You', a track written by the singer for a lively scene in the pool when actor Joep Sertons is doing a humorous striptease-act. The music fits, as if uniquely written for this cue!
