A multi-channeled sound system and live musicians formed the accompaniment for the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the VOC (United East India Compagny) at the Ridderzaal (Great Hall), where members of the Royal Family were present . In Moscow we recorded music for wildlife-film 'Addo, the African King'. Soundpalette also did the music and sound design for the feature film 'Swingers'. 'De 9 dagen van de Gier' ('the 9 days of the Vulture') received the Golden Calf (Dutch Film Festival award).

2001

(2001) This year Soundpalette focused on 2 major projects. We did all the music and sound for 'Morlang' . The music was recorded in Prague. Bart and Han travelled to Ireland to do the final mix at Ardmore Sound. 'Morlang' was much critized by the Dutch press, though Variety was very positive about it. Later this year we worked on a 8-parts-TV-series 'de 9 dagen van de Gier' ('the 9 days of the Vulture') for the NCRV (Dutch Broadcasting Compagny): this premiered at the Dutch Film Festival.

2000

(2000) Work began on'Morlang' . The music played on set was composed by Wiebe and Han. We were also working on 'IJs' ('Ice') for the NCRV (Dutch Broadcasting Compagny).

1999

(1999) 'Total Loss' by Dana Nechustan was slated by the national press. The American magazine Variety wrote a much more positive review. Our first Cinema commercial 'Grolsch boek' played in the cinemas.

1998

(1998) We did the scoring for 'No' (Leine & Roebana) for Scapino-ballet. We composed the electronic soundtrack for the experimental film 'The Oath'. In addition, we did the entire soundtrack by foley and ADR. The film was recorded without sounds so everything had do be created from scratch. (Click on the photo to the left to view a fragment). In a moment of insanity Spice Girls songs were rearranged for the North Holland Philharmonic Orchestra. For the first time this year, music was performed in Prague with a large orchestra.

1997

(1997) Studio 1was renovated (see photo). We created our first computer game soundtrack, for 'Lostboys'. This year we did a number of commercials. For the first time we did the all the music and sound design for the feature movie 'Temmink'.

1996

(1996) We did our first wildlife project for the well known wildlife specialist Hugo van Lawick (many more projects in this line were to follow). We did the scoring for a television adaption named 'Kool', by theatre company The Trust. In addition, for the New Years Day concert in the concert hall, we separated Maria Callas’s voice from the old accompaniment and recreated it on stage.

1995

(1995) Alongside more modern-dance projects ('The Circle Effect' and 'Glottisdance' by Leine & Roebana), much work was done for Robert Jan Westdijks' feature debut 'Zusje'. 'Zusje' later won the annual Dutch Film Festival award, the Golden Calf, for best film. Another first: we supplied all the music and sound for horror parody 'The Bitch is Back' by Tjebbo Penning.

1994

(1994) Following long preparations, Soundpalette started to work on sound postproduction as well. 'Studio 2' was finished on 16th August. The first trailer for 'Blueprint' (a film still to be produced) came into being. Furthermore we provided music for our first modern dance project, titled 'Pork', by Paul Selwyn Norton.

1993

(1993) Besides 3rd year student films, we also composed music for graduate films. 'Horror Vacüi' was well received. 'De Marionettenwereld' (‘The Marionette World’) won a Golden Calf at the Dutch Film Festival and received an Oscar nomination. We worked on our first radio and TV commercials.

1992

(1992) This year we composed music for our first major corporate film, 'De Zaak Mario A' (‘ The Case of Mario A’) by Signum. The film won many awards, both at home and abroad. Soundpalette B.V. was officially established. All the members of Soundpalette joined Buma/Stemra.

1991

(1991) After an initial period operating from the bedroom of Jankoen de Haan (former Soundpalette member), we rented a small place in Utrecht, at Esdoornstraat 14, the future Studio 1. Alongside rehearsing bands we worked undisturbed on Film Academy soundtracks.

1990

(1990) During the second year of their music technology studies, students paid a visit to the Film Academy in Amsterdam. In return Film Academy students visited the Music-Technology Faculty. Fruitful contacts emerged, during the following years many student films were provided with music and, later on, with soundtracks. From an orchestration workgroup, early on in their studies, a group emerged to start a studio, where they could collect all the apparatus necessary for working on music.

We organised several sessions in a holiday house in Doetinchem, where we assembled all the apparatus, and watched and rescored films.

Landmark Projects: 'Het Wentelhuis' (film by 2nd year student Elbert van Strien)
